The team tasked with deciding which of York’s buildings this year represent the very best in design has been boosted with the appointment of one of the UK’s top regeneration and building re-use architects.

Geoff Rich, a managing partner at leading firm of architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, has joined the judging panel of the York Design Awards. And he has only a few weeks to wait before getting his chance to review the 2015 entries, alongside his three co-judges, with the 10th April submission deadline fast approaching.

Geoff said: “It’s a great honour to be involved in this year’s York Design Awards as one of the judges. I’m really looking forward to seeing how architects and designers have responded to the fascinating challenges of designing new work within one of our most important historic cities.”

In joining the York Design Awards judging panel, Geoff will work with architects Julian Bicknell, David Heath and Stephanie Stead to review the broad mix of building entries and decide worthy winners in terms of their quality of design, context, materials and workmanship, sustainability and ‘ability to delight’.

Chair of the York Design Awards, Janet Hopton, said: “With York’s mix of heritage and modern architecture, it is important that our judging panel is made of experts who fully understand the unique context in which the city’s building developments take place. That’s why we are so pleased that Geoff Rich has accepted our invitation to join the judging panel, given his vast experience in projects in cities which are similar in nature to York, economically buoyant yet historically sensitive.”

Entries for the 2015 York Design Awards can be submitted up to 10th April. Details about the categories and how to submit an entry are available at www.yorkdesignawards.org.
